Windows Small Business Server 2011 (SBS 2011) finalised

After being available for a number months in beta and release candidate form – Microsoft have finished off work on the Standard Edition of SBS 2011 (and the Premium add on). The product has today officially reached release to manufacturing (aka RTM) stage.

General availability will be sometime in the new year – OEMs receive it January, and new servers bundled with SBS 2011 should appear in February or March. There are a range of management and functionality benefits – such as improved backup and recovery features. This new SBS version incorporates the following core products:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Exchange Server 2010 SP1
  • SharePoint Foundation Server 2010
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 (Premium Edition / Add-on only)

Associated product updates – SBS 2011 Starter (Codename: Aurora) and Windows Home Server 2011 (Codename: Vail) are likely to RTM in Mar-June 2011.
